So when we were in the fabric store the other day, and I was thumbing through fabric, Riley struck up a convo with an elderly lady.
He started with: "it's a beautiful day today, don't ya think?"
She looked at him surprised that he was talking to her.
she answered" yes it is very nice"
Riley continued the convo with "I like the hawkeyes…who do you like?"
She answered "I like the cyclones"
Riley said "booooo, my grampa phil likes the cyclones, but my dad likes the hawkeyes….the hawkeyes beat the cyclones."
She laughed and said "yes they did!"
We moved on to the cutting counter and after several minutes guess who got in line behind us?
The older lady and she said "well hello again."
Riley said…"oh yeah, hi…were just getting blankets cut"
silence
Riley must have felt the awkwardness and felt the need to fill the silence, so he said
"hey did you know that 2+2=4?"
The woman's face lit up and she smiled and laughed "why, yes it is!"
Riley turned to me and gave me the look like "she ain't seen nothin' yet"
"wellllllll….I also know that 5+4=9, did you know that?"
The woman decided this conversation was so engaging (or that the cutting lady was taking forever) so she SAT ON THE FLOOR…and said "you sure are smart, are you in….hmmmm 1st grade?"
Riley said "no."
She responded "well, what school do you go to?"
Riley said "I don't go to school."
The lady said…"you must go to school…kindergarten?"
And while he bent over to tie his shoes, he said "no, my mom teaches pretend school."
The older lady responded "PRETEND SCHOOL! ooohhh..mommy teaches you at home."
Riley said "yeah!"

This quarter our goals are to:
read and set a analog and digital clock
Spell our first and last name
Know our address, city, state, country, continent, planet and all the planets
Count to 50
Recognize and spell simple 2-3 letter words
Write a letter to Santa (Riley's goal)
Tie Shoes
Read a Calendar
Simple Math (addition and subtraction)
We can read a digital clock and an analog clock, we set the time throughout the day
We have a weekly bible verse, normally fitting to whatever Riley is struggling with. Temper, being nice to others…ect.
We work in work books, on the computer and with games. We do about 30-40 minutes of sit down learning, we play a game, we play outside, we stretch and play simon says…it's pretty much what I had been doing but more organized.
We play games that Tate can play…Tate will put a coin on a color and Riley will add so many more and tell me the total to work on Math.
