Let me paint you the picture: 3 adults, 1 toddler and 1 baby in a car. Jesse driving, mom in the passenger and I in the back with 2 car seats. I spent most of my time pumping, feeding Tate puffs and coming up with answers to entertain Riley….as so it goes.
"…Mommia….? Where's... Where's Colorado?"
how do you explain an 11 hour trip to a 3 year old…?
"Riley, we won't see Colorado until after breakfast….after lunch and after dinner…okay!?"
silence and the hope that that answer was satisfying enough to put him asleep………
"Mommia….."
"what riley…" with the hopes it was a different question
"where's Colorado?…."
Knowing my son's imagination, I decided to plant a little picture in his head to give him something to think about…this couldn't possibly back fire on me, right?
"riley, you will know we are in Colorado when you see uncle boots in the mountains, sitting on a mountain goats saying "yodelayheehoo!"
"oh! okay!"
Silence and the hope he was falling asleep dreaming of this silly idea I planted.
"mommia?"
"yes, Riley"
"Where's…where's the mountain goat?
and so the fascination the the mountain goat began, for the rest of the 11 hour trip we searched for the infamous mountain goat, claiming that if Riley sang "yodelayheehoo!" a mountain goat would respond. The idea entertained Riley and kept us adults sane. Of coarse Uncle Jesse fueled the fire and kept the spirit of the mountain goat alive, pointing out goat sitings, goat tracks and even goat poop. Riley ate it all up. Jesse even got Riley a stuffed mountain goat and Riley stills sleeps with is every night.
The fire station changed Riley's life forever, he loved it. We even got to take a ride around the block in the big rig.
So now that you are caught up enjoy the video.
