(when one decides to become a stay at home mom…the small print includes doctors visits with all the children you own)
We get to the doctors office and I carry the car seat/Blakely and Riley holds Tate's hand and
Dont' get me wrong, my kids are pretty well behaved in public, but somethings you just can't count on…like Riley choking on the water at the drinking fountain and almost puking or Tate saying "I go potty!" After a short wait, we get called and I picked up the car seat/Blakely and Riley grabs Tate's hand and we head back…and of coarse the nurse say's "my, you have your hands full!" and I smiled and thought to myself "yeah no shit!" We stop by the "weigh station" I set down the car seat/Blakely and I tell Riley to put his back against the wall and talk to Blakely while we weigh Tate and measure his height. Once we were done, I pick up the car seat/Blakely, Riley grabs Tate's hand and we follow the nurse to the patient room. There are 2 chairs, I put the car seat/Blakely in one and Riley with angry birds in the other and Tate up on the bed. (btw…by now I have a nice glow of perspiration) The nurse takes Tate's blood pressure and pulse, asks some questions and heads out…stating the doctor would be right in…we waited 15 minutes for the doctor, which is a lifetime when your in a 6x6 foot room with 3 small children…sweating to death! The doctor asks some questions like, have we ever left the country or if we grow our own home remedies…I laughed and said no. He also asked questions like can Tate…
- stack more than 4 blocks, yes.
-give good eye contact, yes.
-play pretend, yes.
-balance on one foot, yes.
-name body parts, yes.
-eating and sleeping well, yes.
-eat dirt………….ummmm….yes, but not as much as last year :)
Sorry, Tate we were close to a perfect score.
The doc then checked his eyes and throat and heart and tummy…then had Tate lay back to check his groin and genitals, of coarse Tate didn't like this part and he started to cry. Riley managed to pop up from his angry birds trance and said "why is that man touching Tate's wiener!" Dr. Gable said, "I'm just making sure Tate is healthy." Oh doctor, if only that would solve the hundreds of questions I am going to receive from Riley this week. (which is a whole other blog)
The doctor was finally done and heads out stating the lab would be right in to give a tetanus shot and hemoglobin…we waited 30 minutes for them. And by this time the kids were restless….My battery on my phone was dying, we didn't ration our snacks well and Tate had to potty again. Finally the nurse came in with the shot and they pricked his finger for blood. and we headed out.
When we got home, as promised, ICE CREAM!!!!
Tate is 29 pounds and 36 inches tall
can count to 10
is starting to recognize the alphabet, his favorite letters are B O H
runs, jumps, kicks and throws
walks up stairs and crawls down
potty trained
sleeps in crib
eats whatever we eat
draws a straight vertical line
knows all his body parts
remembers family and is not shy
is very gentle and kind with Blakely
likes to wrestle and start trouble with Riley
follows 3 part commands (go upstairs, get shoes and bring to mom or sit down, be quiet and eat)
sleeps from 8pm-7am and naps from 1-4pm
speaks in full sentences
wears 3T and size 8 shoes
listens very well and doesn't spend nearly as much time in the corner as Riley did
cries when frustrated and whines a little more than I care for
Over all Tate is an easy going toddler, he is very easy to communicate with and is fun loving and adventurous. He isn't scared of much and likes meeting new people. Soon we will be trying out the bottom bunk (that should be fun) and going diaper free at night. Geez where did the time go?
I can relate to the glow of perspiration well...and the ice cream reward after - it's a must!
