First Comes Marriage…Then Comes Baby

As I am editing maternity pictures,
Riley asks me "does that lady have a baby in her belly or did she just eat lunch?"
(he has a problem with noticing big bellies and loudly speaking about the baby in that persons belly, so I tell him not all people with big bellys have baby's, some people just eat too much for lunch)
I responded "yes, she has a baby in her belly…"
He then asked "but why don't you have a baby in your belly?"
and I again responded "I used to have you in my belly and Tate in my belly AND Blakely in my belly…but now your here, so I don't have a baby in my belly anymore."
He continued his inquiry…"why is there a baby in that lady's belly?"
I said "she's a mommy and that's what mommy's do…girls get married to boys like you and they have baby's"
He squished up his nose and said "I don't want to marry that girl mommy…I want to marry you!"
As my heart melted a little…I reminded Riley "Awww, thanks bud, but you can't marry me."
He asked, "why not?"
I thought I would spare him the whole marrying the family rule and simply state "cuz I am already married to daddy."
He then declared "ALright. then I am going to marry Nana!"
I shook my head and said "Nope. can't marry her either."
"Ava?"
"nope."
"Caleigh?"
"Nope."
"Jen?"
"Nope."
"Alright then…Brandi."
"Nope not her either."
Riley flopped his arms down in frustration and fell to the ground and said "Agh!! I'm never going to get married!"

11 Months and a Model

Blakely is now 11 months old!
-She is standing by herself more and more, in fact she stood up from a crouched position.
-she LOVES music and dances, I have never seen a baby dance like she does, she spins in circles
-eats anything and everything, but her favs are: blueberries, baby peach cobler (peaches, baby cereal and cinnamon) honey nut cheerios, green beans…other than meats she pretty much eats whatever I make for supper.
-drinks whole milk from a bottle, likes it warm and it must be from the bottle, I tried the sippy cup and she shrieked and threw the cup.  OKAY!  She will only drink juice from the sippy.
-Wears 18 month clothing…but not for long
-she loves water, which means bath time is fun time.  She puts her face in the bath water and in the dogs water bowl.  Thank God she hasn't discovered the toilet bowl yet!
-she is a speed demon in her walker and the boys think it is SO FUNNY!
-Her hair is getting long in the back and curls in humidity
-She has 6 teeth
-smiles and laughs at Elmo toy, Ryan singing in a high pitch voice, Riley making silly faces, Tate playing peek-a-boo, Mommy shaking her head no
-Still loves her pacifier

I still look at her and think how lucky we are. :)

We recently did a little modeling.
I get sent photo props from small businesses in exchange I send the business pictures…
well Little Miss Blakely is modeling ruffled leggings.

Fine Print

I didn't forget…I just figured it deserved its own post.

Our KC Trip babysitter was the one and only Nana…aka my mom Pam.

So BIG! HUGE! GIANT! Thank you to Pam for taking it on!

We debated on having multiple grandparents take shifts watching the kids, but Ol' Pam excepted the challenge of three kids all 3 days…She may have missed the FINE PRINT when she agreed to babysit though.

*note if you babysit for us…you also babysit for our dog

Which normally a dog is no big deal…but our dog barks at everything, she barks at anything from the silverware drawer to you hugging the kids.  My mom now understands why I chase after the dog with a broom and a fly swatter.

Under that fine print was minute print that said:

*note you will have to also take care your puppy, charlie

So for those of you keeping count, that a 4 year old, a 2 year old, a 10 month old, a giant crazy dog and overly-excited puppy…

So with all that, I tried to make it as easy on mom as possible. First things First! I stocked up on coffee! I pre-planned dinners and I made a cheat sheet.  Cuz I don't care who you are,  taking over for a stay at home mom is like the first day of a waitressing job: You have somewhat of an idea of what you need to do and your excited, but then you quickly figure out "this sucks!"
"Ummm…Miss, I want, I need, can I, wawawawawawawawawawawawa!"

I printed out these "cheat sheets" so if mom ever found herself daydreaming of posting the kids on craigslist, she could maybe find hope in the answers found here:

Now, some of you are going to think I am crazy and over-bearing…but I dare you to spend a week, not just a couple hours, a week with 3 young kids flying blind…it won't go well.   Day one  may go well, but by day 3,  you will have tried, cranky and constipated children who don't give a rats-rear-end what you have to say.

Naptime and Bedtime, can be stressful.  From my experience, naps are a necessity, for the children and for mom. That's why it's important that you ensure they go to sleep

Blakely is the only one on a schedule…and by schedule I mean…she will start to get fussy at certain times during the day and this is what she wants :)  And with a baby you have to know what to watch out for…you may think you have common sense, but you will quickly learn…you don't :)
There will be times during the day when it feels like the room is spinning, probably around lunch time or right before dinner time…where Riley is picking on Tate….Tate is throwing a fit and blowing snot bubbles the size of the Hindenburg... Blakely is tugging at your leg and you can't find her pacifier and the dog keeps barking and howling at the walkers outside.  These tips below may bring peace.

Now, as much help as I tried to give mom…I didn't factor in Charlie the puppy.  Mom came to our house about 2 hours before we left for KC…so I got a taste of what she was going to have to deal with.  And all I can say is…good thing she brought the squirt bottle of lemon juice :)

I'm not sure how she did it…she was pretty vague on the details, which could be good or bad.
And for the last week:
 I was called Grandma
and asked
"where's charlie?"
"is Charlie outside?"
"is charlie taking a nap?"
"where's grandma?"
"is grandma taking a nap?"

And I found myself saying
"I don't care what grandma said…"
"I don't care what grandma let you do…"

In the end,  I'm glad we took the trip and somehow got mom to watch the kids…cuz I have a feeling after this blog, we may NEVER get a babysitter again.

6 years to life...

Six Years…where did the time go?

Ryan and I are not even close to being the same people we were 9 years ago when we started dating.  I was 19 and he was 21 (HA!)  I was a TEENAGER for heaven sakes!

Ryan was doing pitcher tricks and sleeping on a mattress on the floor…now he is singing lullabies and taking a tums before bed every night.

I was skipping class and working the 3rd shift at perkins…and now I am changing diapers and well, still working the third shift sometimes.  ;)

We had no idea who each other was, we were still self centered individuals, with individual expectations of what a relationship should be.  After 6 years, 2 pets, 4 vehicles, 5 mail address changes, 2 jobs and 3 kids…we've grown, not apart but closer.

Does he still drive me nuts?  Absolutely, I feel like I need to keep duct tape in my purse or a shock collar around his neck, maybe a squirt bottle of lemon juice?…but I have also [learned] to find some of his rants and opinions somewhat tolerable, but most importantly I've learned to just tune him out :) (a good word of advise from our grandparents "what'd she say" -Grandpa Brown)

In a nut shell, I love Ry more now, than I did a year ago, 6 years ago, 9 years ago and I will, in theory, love him more tomorrow…depending on what Hannity says on the ride home from work.

We laugh everyday together…sometimes at turtle man, each other or simply at the kids…but we laugh.  We still fight…{oh my, can you beleive it! We don't have a perfect marriage! :-o}  but it's few and far between.

This last weekend, Ry and I took a trip to Kansas City…a simple, short and sweet trip…a 3 day date night, if you will.  My cheeks hurt from smiling so much, the weather was perfect and the city was beautiful.  I was just so thrilled to be able to do whatever we wanted, fly off the seat of our pants and not have to be back to relieve a babysitter.  No diapers, no sippy cups, no hissy fits.  It was the break we both needed.

Day #1

our hotel had a "Great Gatsby" feel

We stayed in the Power and Light District.
The great thing about the area was, everything we needed was within walking distance, restaurants, night life, theaters, shopping.

The first place we ate:
The flying saucer,

beer and brats.
We picked cuz of Ryan's german roots
It was the best brat I had EVER had, and I had never eaten sour kraut and it was delish. SOLD!

After eating, we needed a nap.  seriously.  and that night we went to PBR bar.  so we ponied up and got our country on.  there was a live band and mechanical bull and well, I had to ride it.

Day #2
Jack Stack
(AKA, the real reason ryan wanted to go to KC)

It was like fancy BBQ
and it was sooooo good

But about half way through our meal, we realized we had no way to box any of it up.  We had walked about 2 miles to the restaurant and no fridge in the hotel and my hubby is not one to waste "bought" food.
The Plan: pace and eat

Note, Ryan's meal had an * on the menu stating it was big enough for 2…it was a true Man vs Food moment.  And our waitress saw Ryan's pain and asked if he was ok?

After that…we sucked in and took a walk to Union Station

Union Station was the 2nd biggest railroad hub in the US.

Walking into the building was breathtaking…it was massive and it took you back to the era

GOD BLESS AMERICA

And of coarse we had to get some chocolate, we went to this same place on our honeymoon at DFW airport.  I got a german chocolate caramel apple and ryan got his peanut butter cup.  We got the boys chocolate dipped twinkies.

Next was the WWI monument and tower

We rode an elevator to the top…very high…very windy

a whole lot of stairs to get there

at the top of the stairs (not the tower) and that is union station, we climbed up from down there, after JACK STACK…blah!  Luckily it was a cool day.

You enter the WWI museum over "Flanders Fields".  A glass walkway over a field of red poppy flowers.

here is a link to learn more about the poem

Ryan sticking his head in a hole, checking out the trenches.
behind the wall was a replica of a WWI trench, it was the first war to use trenches, {and camo}

I highly recommend the museum, which was FULL TO THE BRIM with info, we didn't nearly have enough time to go through it…but I knew nothing about the war and found it very interesting.

The view from the top of the tower monument.

That night we went to the Alamo Drafthouse Theater (we actually went twice)
I was disappointed with the first time and was determined to do it right the second time.

We saw
-Now You See Me-
&
-Star Trek-
They show unique previews, this was Al Green.
A waitress serves you, when you want something you write it on the paper and stick it up.

We liked the concept, but the service wasn't great and the food was less then appealing.  The milk shake was good though :)
And what it lacked in service it made up for in the theater…the speakers were so loud our seats rumbled and the screen and stadium seating was great.

Day #3
Fancy Day
our actual anniversary

We went to eat at a fancy Italian Place and it was delish!

The trip was the perfect amount of time, we both missed the kids terribly and the ride home was only about 2 hours so we weren't anxious for very long.  We stopped on the boarder to smuggle in some high power fireworks!

We were so happy to be home…but it didn't take long for reality to sink in :)

we got the boys coon skin hats and chocolate covered twinkies.
